Hurrungane

Hurrungane

Hurrungane is a mountain range in the municipalities Luster and Årdal in Vestland county, Norway. The area is southwest in the larger mountain range Jotunheimen and is also part of Jotunheimen National Park.

The range has some of the most alpine peaks in Norway with 23 peaks above 2,000 meters. Several of the peaks are only accessible through climbing or glacier crossings.

It is the cradle of Norwegian mountaineering and a place I often return to for skiing, climbing and taking photos. This particularly photo shows the mountains of Store Ringstind, Austadbotntind and Dyrhaugsryggen. It is taken when winter climbing Store Skagastølstind in January. Store Skagastølstind is the highest mountain in the range with its 2 405 meter above sea level.
